TechCon will be entering the arena of social networking leading up to and during the conference in October. We will use Twitter to post upcoming events, conference information and as a back channeling tool (online conversation about topics or speakers for active communication) during the conference.

Follow along at:

The conference will be using Del.icio.us to bookmark pertinent Web sites shared by presenters during TechCon. Please feel free to share any links that are pertinent to any conference attendees and professionals.

What is Twitter?
Twitter is a popular micro blogging service connecting people professionally or socially by having them answer the question “what are you doing” in 140 characters or less.

Hashtags
A hashtag can be created by simply prefixing a word with a hash symbol (”#”): #hashtag. This creates an easy way to “tag” content so that everyone has a common term to both search and post content. For example, TechCon will be using #techcon10 for content around the 2009 conference. By tweeting this hashtag and listing it on our Web site, twitterers can find the hashtag and begin adding content with the tag #techcon10. Then conducting a search using #techcon10 is more likely to yield a broader listing of conversations around the conference than by searching with simple keywords.
What is Delicious?
Delicious is a service where thousands of people store their bookmarks, in-turn enabling users to see what's trendy and popular.

Here's the scoop.
1. Delicious is a site where thousands of users store their favorite online links and resources. (This is called a social bookmarking service)

2. When the favorites of thousands of users are collated, trends are established and it is easy for users to see what is popular and emerging.

3. Delicious was one of the first major sites to use tagging, which allows users to tag their favorite bookmarks with keywords of their choice instead of having to select from a pre-defined list of categories.

4. Delicious is free to join.

How to get started.

1. Create a Delicious account.

2. Add a 'browser button' to your web browser. (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari)

3. After finding a bookmark to share, click on the browser button and this will automatically add that bookmark to your Delicious bookmarks list. You can also tag that bookmark with keywords for faster retrieval at a later date.
